- See Less - Michael was a good high school wrestler whose highest state finish was second as a senior. He wrestled at the University of Missouri where he qualified for the NCAA tournament 3 times before garnering all-american honors as a senior by placing 5th. He has started to do a little mma training and plans to get his mma career going with some fights once he feels ready.

Michael Chandler is gonna be a BEAST on the mma scene, if this guys fights like they way he wrestles (looks from this video like he does) then he is gonna really give some guys some trouble.
For those of you who don't know, Michael will be fighting on the Strikeforce card on November 20 in KC Missouri where Tyron Woodley is fighting in the main event. Congrats to Michael.
He looked really good Ty, He has SO much potential....you found a champ in the rough. Under you he should develop just fine. It was good to see you again by the way. Congrats on Strikeforce by the way!
I disagree, only with the can't defend a take down part. There are alot of fighters some who don't even have highschool wrestling who have developed MMA wrestling that surpasses alot of D-1 wrestlers.
it seems like any d1 wrestler can transfer to mma very well, its almsot like they have an easy ride to pro status, none of those guys can defend a take down from a d1 wrestler, secondly all d1 wrestlers are jacked and at least in this fight chandler looked a ton stronger
Is this a pro fight? Either way I think the ref let that go waaaay too long. That guy didn't answer about 50 pretty solid blows. Intelligently defending doesn't me lay there an cover up. I'm all up for an ass beating but damn, that guy might wanna fight again one day. Solid MMA game non the less, I like it.
Have you seen Askren's standup? I hope Chandler would be better than Askren on his feet. Askren's hope only chance is to win fights on the ground at this stage of his career. Askren has a gas tank and good ground skills.
You might be right Matt. The point is...I would love to see it wouldn't you? Hey Jake...the question is why WOULDN'T they fight? Is there some super secret truce or something??? What a turd! T-Wood training Chandler would be cool because he rolls with Askren all the time. He knows his strengths and weaknesses. The only issue is weight and as Matt pointed out...that could be adjusted. SO...Jak...you are the ed.
Noway Chandler can beat Askren. Askren's BJJ and Wrestling is far better. Stand-up, I dont know. Didn't get to see Chandler's. Askren has the reach and size advantage so i think that can cancel out the stand up. I see it a ground fight because of their styles and Askren would submit Chandler imo. And Jake they definitely could fight, but most likely at a catch weight at 160-65.
I would love to see Chandler fight Askren. Askren jiu jitsiu has really come along but I think Chandler could give him a beating. Fans need to unite and DEMAND to see this fight!
Missouri All-American Michael "The Manhandler" Chandler didn't waste much time after getting out of college before transitioning into mma, he made his debut last Saturday night in Missouri. August 9, 2009
