Ben over the last two years of his college career was flawless. His first two years were not half bad either, each time going losing in the finals of the NCAA tournament. Ben Askren will mostly be remembered for the entertaining fashion he wrestled his matches. He always had fun and always put on a show for the fans.
In 2008 he won the U.S. Nationals and Olympic trials and competed in the Bejing games. Since then he has continued on as an volunteer wrestling coach and has begun training mma at American Top Team in Columbia, MO. His first fight is likely to be in early 2009.
Ben shows real commitment to his brother, I know he promised max he would be there for him until he graduated from mizzou. I think he checking out mma to see were it will take him and also make him a better wrestler. At some point I think he will get back to his Olympic wrestling goals. His approach to taking on some thing knew is a good one, Watch and learn,
Go ben, geter done
Judging by the comments on here there definitely needs to be an age cap on being able to comment ... Maybe 18+? I'm sick of little teenage haters crapping up all the forums and comment sections on sites. Ban the little creeps, pls!.. haha
Strategy and Planning.....that is an approach that Ben is capitalizing on, and, not unlike a scientist.....Think about it. He is humble enough to know who he cannot beat. Good for him.
Ben wants to have as many fights as his body can handle in 2009 so he can improve himself and work his way up the ladder. He feels that he cannot become the wrestler he wants to be by living in the United States because the best wrestlers aren't there. He went from 6th in the US in 2007 to 1st in 2008 and credits that to game planning and strategy. His ultimate goal for mma is the same as anything he goes after in life, to be the best. If he didn't think he could be the best he wouldn't try. When he is not fighting or wrestling he enjoys state parks and frisbee golf. December 10, 2008
