There was a bit of controversy surrounding the Josh Arocho - Sean Wilson co- main event at the VFC, what do you think was the right call made?

If he did not tap then why did he not continue. He stopped like he was beat and Arocho got up like he won.
If you didn't tap or give up then there would not be any doubt in your mind what was going on. After the fight the anouncer asked if he tapped and Wilson said he wasn't sure.

Rob Wilson 3 years ago

That wasnt really a tap. Had he continued to fight after the guy let go, the fight would have still been on. Although he was going to tap and im not sure he realized the ref didnt stop the fight. Any fighter whos been in the "fighter meetings" before every event knows the rules clearly state you have to tap three times OR shout out a verbal submission. If the ref doesnt see it. or hear it. it didnt happen. Rule of thumb: dont stop till the ref tells you to.

And no he wasnt tapping his glove when he reached for it. he was trying to grab his fist to stop the armbar from extending, he just didnt get it in time.

I kinda thought the same thing Kyle

no brainer...dude tapped, even if he didnt accually tap he still quit fighting which is a dead give a way tht indeed lost

It is easy to get Arocho to fight again. Pay him.. thats all he cares about...the more you pay him the faster he will fight. Except now he will actually be able to train because his foot will be healed up by then.

he tapped twice..once with his glove and verbally if you were sitting anywhere close during this fight it was obvious...heard there was a rematch in oct

chris 3 years ago

i didn't see it . it looked like he was gettin out of it.
but if the bottom guy held it a little longer then yeah.
i say give these 2 a rematch

Al 3 years ago

Guy on the bottom should have held the submission longer, but that dude on the top would have had his arm broken because you can't defend an armbar with only one arm the leverage is with the guy on the bottom. That arm coming up on the knee was a tap even if it was once because there was no reason for that arm to be there except to tap

i c the tap but its to close and if the bottom guy would have waited for the ref to stop it he would not have the controversy

Too close to call... glad I'm not the ref

It didn't look like a clear tap. The ref was out of position to see a tap even if there was one. There is what they call verbal submission, as if the fight screams in pain. I see this as more of a verbal submission than a tap, but as stated before, that was a deep armbar, and the right guy go his hand raised in the end.

I think he tapped as well, he did not have any intentions of fighting after he got his arm out, you would think if he didnt tap he would have went right after him!

The boy tapped. It was either tap out or loose his arm.... he made a good decision and the right man won the fight!!!!!!!!!

I agree. I dont think that he fullfilled the requirement of a tapout, only tapping once. I also think it was a mistake for the bottom man to release the armbar without the refferee stepping in. You are supposed to fight until stopped. BUT either way, the mans reaction at the end of the fight is enough to tell you that he meant a tap. He wasn't freaking out or anything. If it were me, I'd be pissed and want to fight. Heck, i'd probly go after the guy thinking he just bailed on the armbar and the fight was still on. But no, the man just quit. He was defeated.

If he did not tap then why did he not continue. He stopped like he was beat and Arocho got up like he won. It looks like Arocho was being too nice he should have just broke his arm.

Robbed 3 years ago

No way the rule states he has to tap at least twice, and there was barely one and the ref was out of position and did not even separate them check the Mazzagatti interviews for the rule you have to tap at least twice or three times in secession .

Q 3 years ago

he tapped, you can see his left hand tap on the knee. if he didnt let go he woulda snapped the guys arm
