JZ started in judo when he was only 4 years old and moved into other arts from there. He was successful but didn't have enough money to travel around Brazil to different tournaments. He moved to Florida about 5 years ago to fight in the UFC. He feels that American Top Team has a family feel to it because all the fighters are motivated and are striving for the same thing.
Bit of an odd point in that video - JZ has never fought in the UFC, yet the interviewer doesn't seem to get that when he's told.
