Vegas-
Having misplaced my drivers license I had a temporary one faxed to me from the DMV, turns out Las Vegas rental car places won't accept anything photo copied so I couldn't rent a car. Thanks to Gene Stevens for saving the day by picking me up and brining me to the MMA seminar and expo at the MGM, not to be confused with the UFC fan expo which took place on Friday at Mandalay Bay. I attended both but enjoyed the one at MGM more, even though there wasn't as much going on it was way less crowded and easier to get around. I got a chance to meet and talk with Joe Warren while I was there and he told me he would be training at Xtreme Couture that night if I wanted to stop by. When I got there later Henderson was doing a light workout with Lindland, Krzysztof Soszynski, and a couple others. I took some video of Joe Warren training with a Japanese fighter and I should be able to get to making a workout video in the next week The coolest thing about the UFC expo on Friday to me was the Grapplers Quest going on which is where I spent a decent amount of my time, the rest of it was ok, the idea for it was great but it was just way too crowded.
Later on Friday afternoon I went to the UFC weigh ins where I was able to finagle my way into the back stage area where all the fighters were. What was interesting to me was to see all of the fighters were were down to weight, having been a college wrestler I know that feeling of extreme thirst all too well. I was sitting by myself when a all the fighters were called to the area where I was sitting and Brock Lesnar came and sat down right next to me, I wanted to pull my camera out and ask him a couple questions but didn't really think it was the right time and doubt he wanted to be bothered... so I waited until he walked away and it on and made a little video of what was going on around me. After the weigh ins I actually had to get to the airport because a good friend of mine was getting married in San Francisco.
California-
My flight got in to San Francisco a little before midnight and thought I was going to meet up with some friends for a place to crash for the night... well the place they were didn't get cell phone reception so my dependance on technology bit me in the ass and I was forced to find a side street in San Francisco where I could pull my can over and sleep in the back seat spreading all my clothes out over me like a blanket. Finally got ahold of my friends in the morning and everything worked out, the wedding was fun but I couldn't wait until it was over so that I could go watch the UFC 100 fights on replay.
Monday was gym day, I started in San Francisco where I visited Fairtex, then drove to Berkley and stopped by Jake Shields new gym, from there I headed over to Cesar Gracie where I took videos to make gym tours at each place. From there I went all the way down to San Jose and stopped by Frank Shamrocks gym before going back to San Francisco for the night. My final day of the trip I drove up to Sacramento to visit Ultimate Fitness. When I got there Danny Castillo was finishing up a workout inside the ring and then Chad Mendes and Joe Benavidez showed up getting ready to train. Chad went through a weight cutting workout in preparation for his PFC fight which he won in :44 by KO and Joe did a little wrestling with one of the wrestlers from Cal Poly. The guys at that gym are good guys and I wish I could have stayed to watch them workout again but I had to get some videos up and get back to San Francisco.
I finally made it home on 2 days ago and am getting ready to leave again either later today or early tomorrow to go down to Houston with Yves Edwards to catch a fight card and do a coverage, I don't even know the name of it but as soon as I find out I will create a coverage page for it and hope to have the fight videos up by Sunday morning.
Until next time...
Don't listen to the naysayers, I think you look really cute with your lovely locks of hair.
